were the key to helping Chennai Super Kings win, with Dube leading the chase with an unbeaten 43 from 37 balls and Dhoni giving the finishing touches with a scorching 26 from just 11 balls. Their calm partnership wrapped up the win, which was laid out in advance by CSK’s controlled bowling performance that restricted Lucknow Super Giants to 166/7 in their 20 overs..
LSG
LSG started wobbly with Aiden Markram getting out in the very first over at the hands of Khaleel Ahmed. The pressure mounted further as Anshul Kamboj got Nicholas Pooran back to the pavilion for mere 8 runs. But Rishabh Pant was rock solid, steadying the innings with a gritty 63 from 49 balls—his season’s first half-century—which helped LSG reach a battling total.
Mitchell Marsh contributed a reliable 30 from 25 deliveries, and Ayush Badoni contributed a useful 22 from 17. Lucknow Super Giants, however, couldn’t get momentum in the death overs and could not make use of their middle-order platform. Ravindra Jadeja contributed towards stopping them from making progress with a neat spell of 2 for 24, which saw him get crucial wickets of Marsh and Badoni.
Chennai Super Kings’ pursuit began well as IPL newcomer Shaik Rasheed opened the innings with Rachin Ravindra in place of struggling Devon Conway. The new opening combination gelled well, scoring a quick 50-run stand in only 4.2 overs. Rasheed marked his debut with a scorching 27 in 19 deliveries, while Ravindra blazed 37 from 22, setting the platform very well.
Chennai Super Kings
’ chase got off to a flying start as IPL debutant Shaik Rasheed opened the innings alongside Rachin Ravindra, stepping in for the struggling Devon Conway. The new opening pair clicked instantly, adding a rapid 50-run partnership in just 4.2 overs. Rasheed impressed on debut with a brisk 27 off 19 balls, while Ravindra smashed 37 off 22, laying a strong foundation.
But Lucknow spinners turned the equation midway through the innings. Ravi Bishnoi and Aiden Markram picked up crucial wickets, dismissing Rachin, Rahul Tripathi, Ravindra Jadeja, and Vijay Shankar in rapid succession. From the commanding beginning, CSK suddenly found themselves struggling at 111/5 after 15 overs.
That is when MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube took responsibility under pressure. Dhoni electrified the stadium with old-school brilliance, a 17th-over one-handed six over deep square leg among them. Dube remained calm and took the reins in the 19th over, blasting 19 runs off Shardul Thakur’s over, featuring a towering six as well as a game-changing no-ball. The duo’s aggressive and clinical partnership took CSK over the top, registering a much-needed victory.
The win was a much-needed revival for Chennai Super Kings, who boosted their IPL 2025 season after a series of consecutive losses. Lucknow Super Giants’ 166/7 total, while competitive, came up short on a wicket that was providing turn and grip, particularly to the spinners.
Ravi Bishnoi impressed with a fine spell, taking figures of 2 for 18 and putting constant pressure in the middle overs. Digvesh Rathi impressed as well with neat figures of 1 for 23. For all their restrictive bowling, LSG could not keep CSK’s veteran batting line-up under control, especially the match-winning contributions of Dube and Dhoni, who led their side to a confident five-wicket victory. 4o
Player of the Match: MS Dhoni

It’s always great to win a match, especially in a tournament such as this one where momentum plays a very important role. Unfortunately, we have not had our way in recent matches, but this win will certainly pick our confidence up. It was a hard battle, and I’m glad that we were able to get to the other side on the right side.
From our bowling, we did struggle somewhat in the powerplay. But the middle overs were much improved, and we finished well in the death. There have been instances where the opposition started well, but we pulled back well and were able to hold them to a par score.
Our batting hasn’t been getting the starts that we want, and the early wicket losses have been on our mind. One of the reasons might be the slower condition of the pitches in Chennai. Surprisingly enough, our batting team has worked better in matches away from home. It’s important that we are allowed to express ourselves uninhibitedly as a batting side.
To my mind, at least, until now, our bowling unit has been more dependable than the batting unit. We’ve done some tweaks—mainly to fix our powerplay bowling. Previously, we were depending too much on Ashwin to bowl two overs during the powerplay, which was putting pressure on him. We’ve shifted the batting lineup to incorporate bowlers who are better for those initial overs, and I feel this revised attack is more balanced. Overall, though the bowling has been good, we’ve still got work to do in our batting.”
